In this exclusive webinar, Paul Douglas will talk about OH aspects and challenges of migrant workers and Israr Ahmed will talk on novel ways that the challenges of migrant workers health and welfare has been managed.

The ILO global estimates on migrant workers show in 2018 migrant workers account for 164 million of the world’s approximately 277 million international migrants and that even when employment is not the prime motivator of travel it will figure in migration at some stage given nearly 90% of migrants are between 20-64 years.

While a minority of migrant workers hold high-skilled jobs, many have jobs that are dirty, dangerous and demanding ("three D-jobs") and consequently face high risks of work-related accidents and disease. The objectives of this webinar are: - To understand significant safety and health risks of migrant workers and existing conditions; - To identify good practices through public health protection and employment readiness that may be utilised at health assessments to protect migrant workers; - To discuss measures for improving safety and health of migrant workers prior to engagement.

Paul Douglas is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, with a Masters in Health Administration and specialised interests in public and global health. He joined UN Agency - International Organization for Migration in January 2018 working in the Migration Health Division to set global standards for migration health assessment activities, assuring the quality of the work undertaken by the 70 IOM clinics world-wide for more than 400,000 migrants annually. He works closely with member states and other Agencies including World Health Organization.

Dr. Israr Ahmed has over 30 years of experience of working in different Shell companies across the world in the fields of occupational and clinical health. He is a pioneer and remains to be an active contributor to the Workers Welfare program in the Shell group of companies. His current focus is on exploring initiatives around employees wellbeing to improving human performance.
