    Rebecca Mead

    Rebecca qualified with a BSc in Physiotherapy 23 years ago and has worked for the majority of that time specialising in treating Musculoskeletal issues within Private, NHS, corporate, and sporting sectors. Over the last 10 years she has specialised into OH and worked in a diverse number of working environments. Delivering DSE, WPA, FCE and onsite and virtual physiotherapy clinic services. Working closely with both the employee and employer to tackle wellbeing, retention of staff, presenteeism and sickness absence management. In her current role with Bespoke wellbeing she is Ergonomics Lead, helping to deliver and manage occupational health, ergonomic and physiotherapy services to a wide variety of clients across the country.

    Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) for Occupational Health Technicians and Nurses

    Course tutor: Dr Roger Cooke, consultant in occupational medicine, and a leading expert in hand-arm vibration syndrome

    Are you getting started in HAVS? Do you want to improve your confidence, knowledge and skills? For OH technicians and screening nurses, with no prior knowledge of HAVS, this new introductory course may meet your needs. This one-day face-to-face training course is designed specifically for OH technicians and screening nurses to provide background knowledge to assist in their role undertaking delegated tasks for statutory health surveillance.

    How will attending this training benefit you?

    You will gain:

    • Detailed background knowledge of hand transmitted vibration, its health effects and symptoms

    • An understanding of your role in undertaking delegated tasks for statutory health surveillance at Tiers 1, 2 or 3, and how you can work under supervision to assist suitably qualified occupational health staff

    • Hands on, practical experience of how to conduct different assessments for HAVS

    • Improved confidence in your HAVS knowledge and skills

    Who is the training designed for?

    This training is designed for OH technicians and screening nurses that are new to HAVS (little or no experience). Previous experience of HAVS is not essential, but experience in OH is required.

    SOM plans regular workplace visits for its members as part of the benefits of being a member. We have secured a visit to the Houses of Parliament on Friday 19th April starting at 1pm (time tbc). This will include a tour of the building (approx. 45 minutes) followed by a presentation about working in Multi Disciplinary Teams in the Houses of Parliament. There will also be the launch of  OH Mentoring https://ohcareers.info/. The visit is planned to finish by 4pm.

    This visit will offer an opportunity to SOM’s Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) and Allied Health Professional (AHP) members to learn and ask questions to help with their CPD. An e-tivity document will be provided that participants can complete as part of their visit.

    Please note that taking of photos or videos and posting these on social media is not allowed due to national security. You will be advised where and when there may be an opportunity for photos on the day.

    We will also confirm a meeting point nearer the time. 

    There is a café onsite and if you wish to have lunch beforehand there are lots of local pubs and shops in the area.

    There are a maximum of 30 places, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
