SOM Central Southern Group, Spring Meeting and AGM

Booking is now open for the regional Spring meeting and AGM for the Central Southern England Society of Occupational Medicine Group. This will be held at Doubletree by Hilton, Chilworth, Southampton, SO16 3RB on Friday 18th May. As usual we will start with lunch from 12.15pm. The venue is conveniently located just at the bottom of the M3 if you are driving and is a short taxi ride from Southampton Airport Parkway station if you come by train. Directions to the hotel can be found here.

The meeting will start at 1pm and the AGM (for SOM members) will follow at around 4pm. The programme will include the following speakers:

Michelle Kitson: Michelle is a Chartered Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with specialist expertise in Occupational Health and Ergonomics. She will be speaking on Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE’s), which she has had many years of experience undertaking. She has also been involved with ACPOHE's (Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health & Ergonomics) steering group on the development of ACPOHE's National FCE Toolkit. She will provide some case examples of how these assessments can be used to help rehabilitate employees back to work, as well as explaining how we might incorporate some of the practical aspects of the assessment into our own practice. 

Dr Laura Pearse: Laura is a Consultant Psychiatrist with a special interest in occupational psychiatry. She will be familiar to many in the group and as before, will lead an interactive session using case examples. She will also give us a brief update on the management of common mental health disorders with particular reference to the potential side effects of medication which may impact on safety critical work.

Dr Paul Williams: Paul is a Consultant Occupational Health Physician and the current President of SOM. He will be facilitating a discussion on the future of Occupational Health Practice and delivery and this will provide us with an opportunity to debate the various issues. 

We will also be joined for the meeting and AGM by Nick Pahl, CEO of SOM who will give us an update during the AGM.
