Sudden incapacity (syncope, LOC, altered LOC) is a challenging area for occupational health physicians when understanding potential reasons (neurological, endocrine, cardiovascular, etc.), estimating a risk of recurrence and assessing fitness to work is essential. This might be even more complex in a safety critical work environment, when sudden incapacity could pose risk to an employee, their colleagues and public. Cases of sudden incapacity require careful consideration of adjustments and restrictions to job duties, sometimes leading to a redeployment and career change.
The meeting programme was designed to cover the main underlying medical conditions causing incapacity, their risk assessment, management and potential adjustments. The panel of the conference consists of leading specialists in neurology, cardiology and endocrinology, as well as presentations on assessment of fitness to drive after sudden incapacity and complex occupational cases.
