An update on work-related hypersensitivity pneumonitis

Registration is closed for this event

FREE for SOM Members (please log in on the SOM website first).

This seminar will cover current understanding of the classification, phenotyping and natural history of hypersensitivity pneumonitis, as well as taxonomies for causative exposures, case finding and screening (including questionnaires), and novel agents and exposures.  Metalworking fluid has become the commonest occupational exposure associated with hypersensitivity pneumonitis, though questions have remained about the exact causes; insights from workplace, epidemiological and clinical studies will be discussed.

Gareth Walters MD FRCP DOccMed is a Consultant in Occupational Respiratory Medicine, and runs the Birmingham Regional NHS Occupational Lung Disease Service, seeing patients from primary and secondary care and occupational health services, from around the region and beyond. He is also an Honorary Senior Clinical research Fellow at the Institute of Applied Health Research, University of Birmingham UK, where he undertakes clinical and epidemiological research into the causes of work-related lung disease, and the effect of poor lung health on work.  He is a member of the Group of Occupational Respiratory Disease Specialists (GORDS) and also the Industrial Injuries Advisory Council.
