Organisational Interventions to Support Healthcare Worker Wellbeing

The challenging working environments in the healthcare sector has been linked to the impairment of healthcare workers’ health and wellbeing. This necessitates a more holistic approach in supporting healthcare working, moving beyond only supporting the individual worker towards mitigating the demands and building up resources within the working environment. This webinar shares the outcomes of a Wellcome-funded project looking to collate examples of staff wellbeing interventions in the UK healthcare sector that focus on the working environment, structure, or patterns of healthcare workers.

This session aims to: (i) emphasise the need for take a more holistic approach towards supporting healthcare worker wellbeing; (ii) introduce principles of identifying and managing psychosocial risks in the workplace; (iii) provide examples across different NHS contexts of organisational wellbeing interventions; (iv) reflect on lessons learnt that can serve to enhance our collective understanding of running interventions within complex and dynamic settings; and (v) highlight a resource guide summarising the examples and learnings from this project.

Kevin Teoh

Dr Kevin Teoh is a Chartered Psychologist and the Programme Director of the MSc Organizational Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London. He is also the Executive Officer for the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology. His primary research interests are around developing healthier workplaces, and the translation of research into practice, policy, and public dissemination. Kevin has collaborated extensively with the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work and the Society of Occupational Medicine, and has a particular interest in the working conditions and wellbeing of healthcare workers. He has published in journals such as Work & Stress and the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, and is a regular speaker at academic, professional, and public events.
