Summary. Drawing upon true case-stories, and utilising video interviews with clinical experts, this webinar will cover: the ABCDE approach (Absence, Body, Control, Diet, Exercise) for recognising signs of an eating disorder; some of the most common biological, psychological and social risk factors which can predispose, precipitate, or perpetuate an eating disorder; and the MEED Guidelines (Recognition and Management of Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders), from the Royal College of Psychiatrists, for risk assessment to aid decisions on management.

Presenter. Nick Pollard BSc (Psych) MBPsS FRSA is co-author of the textbook Eating Disorders: An Oxford Specialist Handbook (OUP 2022) and has personal experience of eating disorders, having supported his own daughter through recovery in her teenage years. He will present the webinar live, utilising short video interviews with the other textbook authors: his daughter Dr Elizabeth McNaught (now a doctor in general practice) and Prof Janet Treasure (a world-renowned expert in the subject with a lifetime’s experience in specialist care).

Chair: Dr Susy Gillibrand
