This webinar continues our free-to-access series on "Basics in OH". This introductory session has been designed to enhance the knowledge, understanding and clinical skills of occupational health professionals involved in skin surveillance and the general management of work-related skin problems.

Brief summary:

This session will:

1. Undertake a brief review of the legal and legislative considerations surrounding skin surveillance.
2. Identify the common sources of skin hazards across a range of occupations.
3. Review the most common types of occupational skin problems and learn to describe them using accurate dermatological terminology.
4. Work through a clinical skin case study to gain a better understanding how to provide basic, evidence-based clinical advice and workplace adjustments.
5. Engage in a 15 minute question and answer discussion session.

Speaker Bio:

Dr Katrin Alden MBBCh, DOccMed, PgDipDerm, PGCert HE

Dr Alden is an occupational health physician with an interest in work-related skin problems and is passionate about caring for working skin.

She has been employed as a speciality doctor in dermatology in a tertiary NHS dermatology centre since 2013 and has worked as a clinical lecturer in dermatology for Cardiff University.

In addition to the NHS, general occupational physician and medical education work, she runs a weekly occupational skin clinic for a large NHS organisation in Wales. She is the lead clinician for their skin surveillance programme and provides advice on both the clinical management and workplace adjustments for employees with work-related skin problems.

Katrin has worked as a clinical lecturer in dermatology and completed a certificate in higher education training with Harvard University in 2020. Drawing on these skills, to create and deliver high-quality, interactive educational courses for healthcare professionals in her role as a medical educator.
