OH consultations are at the heart of an occupational health professional's work. The At Work Partnership is delighted to introduce a new one-day course designed to help OH professionals enhance their consultation skills.

Join The At Work Partnership for an important day of training concentrating on the communication and interpersonal skills that are required for effective OH consultations. The course will explain how a skilled consultation can help move a case forward, how to manage difficult consultations and ensure that legal, ethical and quality requirements are met.

Conducted virtually via zoom, the course will be led by a team of specialists in occupational health and consultation techniques, including Dr Nerys Williams, independent OH physician; Dr Clare Fernandes, BBC; Carolyn Graham, mediator & conflict coach; Prof Diana Kloss, barrister and Sharon Wilday, consultant cognitive behavioural psychotherapist.

The training day aims to teach you to:

- Understand the aims of the OH consultation in terms of moving the case forward

- Set up and prepare for effective OH consultations, and understand how to audit and improve these

- How to develop your communication and interpersonal skills that are required for effective OH consultations - including establishing rapport, information gathering, listening and questioning skills, and an introduction to motivational interviewing and coaching techniques

- Know your legal responsibilities - and the nuances of the unique role of the OH professional - in fulfilling your obligations to both the employee and the employer

- Get the most of your OH consultations whether face to face, telephone or video/online
