SOM Leadership Conference 2024 - Building success in OH

Wednesday 9th October 9.30am-4.30pm (in-person only)

An inclusive day for all disciplines offering inspiration to develop your leadership skills. Objectives are:

- Understand and articulate to others what leadership is in OH 

- Reflect on the benefits of managing upwards and leading from behind

- Take away practical tips and steps, with examples, as to how OH can influence organisations to make positive change

“Leadership means the ability to influence the organisation to make positive changes and having a clear vision and to bring people on that journey for you. It also means managing challenging people management in difficult circumstances.”

10.45am-11.25am 'Are we there yet?' - Skills and competencies needed to be an effective leader, including questions - Mr John Mark Williams, CEO Institute of Leadership

11.25am-11.40am Tea/coffee

11.40am -12.40pm Break out sessions: x2 sessions repeated, 20 mins each, with 5 min questions and moving time

- Mediation in the workplace: resolving conflict - Miss Natalie Graham, Workplace Mediator

- Successful policy writing - Mrs Hilary Winch RGN, Dip OH (Distinction), Chair NHS Health at Work Network

12.40pm-1.30pm Lunch/networking 

1.30pm-2.30pm Break out sessions: x2 sessions repeated, 20 mins each, with 5 min questions and moving time

- Your leadership journey taking the next step - Ms Emma Persand, SOM Diversity & Inclusion vice chair

- OH leadership without positional power - Dr Imogen Stilz, Consultant Occupational Physician

2.30pm-2.50pm Tea/coffee and networking break

2.50pm-3.45pm Managing your emotions and the emotions of others during difficult times - Prof Jo Yarker, Occupational Psychologist

3.45pm-4.15pm Q&A with all speakers 

4.15pm Wrap up and close - Dr Lanre Ogunyemi, SOM President
