Editor of the Journal of Occupational Medicine

Occupational Medicine, the journal of the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM), invites applications from any member interested in being the next editor of the journal. Occupational Medicine is an international peer reviewed scientific journal which aims to further the mission of the Society through the promotion of workplace health and safety, and the professional development of practising occupational health professionals and research workers in related fields.

The journal has a total subscription of 6,000 copies globally. A substantial proportion of the published research is from the UK, although over half of the published articles are from international researchers. In 2017 there were more than one million full text downloads of journal articles.

The position requires leadership of the editorial team and international advisory board. You will be responsible for ensuring continued publication of the journal and maintaining the existing high standard of published material. You will also be responsible for developing the journal so that it remains essential to our membership and to the occupational health community globally. You will be supported by a dedicated assistant editor as well as the editorial team and our publishers Oxford University Press. Editorial team meetings are held a minimum of twice a year. It is estimated that the time commitment is at least one day per week. The role of editor attracts an honorarium and travel budget. Attendance at academic conferences is ideally part of the role, where networking and publicity for the journal is an important task. The tenure of the position in the first place is for 5 years.

Applicants should be occupational health professionals who ideally have experience publishing and reviewing. Previous experience with journal editing and being on editorial boards is desirable. Candidates for the Editorship will be required to have a short interview.

Interested parties should submit a short covering letter as to why they are suitable for this role, together with a brief CV to, Nick Pahl, SOM CEO nick.pahl@som.org.uk. Closing date 6th July 2018
