    We have secured a special visit to the Bremont Watch Manufacturing Centre in Berkshire on Wednesday 3rd September 2025.

    The tour will begin at 1.30pm Spaces are limited to 9 people on a first come, first served basis. Please only book on if you can make it.

    Bremont employees 160 people globally, ranging from in house marketing, finance and product development to manufacturing, watchmakers, and retail staff. Each role has slight variations in terms of working hours and patterns, but the majority in the admin wing are contracted to work Mon-Fri 9-5.30pm.

    Bremont don’t have an Occupational Health person on site as it’s all outsourced. They do have on site designated 1st Aiders. Photos can be taken throughout the tour, however please ensure that no staff are captured as they preferred not to be photographed.

    This is an opportunity to also meet fellow SOM members in a relaxed environment.

    Session details:

    This webinar will describe the science of sleep, the impact that the monthly cycle and the menopause can have on sleep organisation, quantity and quality and the importance of optimising sleep to enhance activities of daily living and better manage other symptoms of the menstrual cycle and the menopause.

    Sleep disturbances in some people during their monthly menstrual cycle and in many people living with symptoms of the menopause are common and exacerbate the challenges of activities of daily living.  A knowledge of managing sleep problems in this group is important in order to enhance their quality of life and optimise potential treatment outcomes. 

    Attendees will gain an understanding of the science of sleep, how different sleep stages are relevant to the experience of disturbed menstrual and / or menopausal sleep, introduce the insomnias and parasomnias which are commonly seen in these people, and identify appropriate treatment approaches for these clients.

    After the course attendees will be understand the significance of sleep quality in this group and be able to apply evidence-based interventions to assist themselves and their clients if they are Treating Healthcare Professionals.
     
    Speaker bio:

    Dr David Lee BSc PhD CertEd CPsychol AFBPsS CSci.  Originally a Human Biologist and then conducted a PhD in Sleep Psychology at Loughborough University's internationally renowned Sleep Research Centre examining sleep and associated quality of life in at-risk, clinical groups.  

    Since then, he has held academic posts at Bradford and Newcastle Universities, lecturing in Psychobehavioural Treatments for Insomnia, and as a clinician works with those who have complex needs.  As well as training over 7,000 healthcare professionals and talking to people from over 500 organisations, he has provided consultation to companies, individuals and legal teams relating to sleep, is a Bond Solon trained expert witness and is author of ‘Teaching the World to Sleep’, Routledge publishing, 2nd edition. 

    Dr Lee is Clinical Director of Sleep Unlimited, who have been training healthcare professionals and assessing individuals globally for 22 years.

    The Level 3 Certificate for Occupational Health Technicians is the leading qualification for OHTs, developed in association with the Society of Occupational Medicine.

    This qualification is made up of 6 mandatory modules and is carried out over two weeks of classroom learning (split in 2 x 5 day consecutive sessions) and observations, with self-study time for assignments.

    Entry Requirements
    Learners should be over the age of 18 and be working as an Occupational Health Technician.

    Course schedule:
    - Unit 1: The role and responsibilities of the Occupational Health Technician (Day 1 - 29/09)
    - Unit 2: Professional behaviour for Occupational Health Technicians (Day 2 - 30/09)
    - Unit 3: Risk Management for the Occupational Health Technician (Days 3 & 4 - 01/10 - 02/10)
    - Unit 4: Safe and effective use of screening equipment for occupational health technicians (Days 5, 6, 7 & 8* 03/10 and 27/10 - 29/10)
    - Unit 5: Understanding fitness for role screening (Day 9* - 30/10)
    - Unit 6: Understanding health risk management and health improvement (Day 10 - 31/10)
    *experienced technicians do not need to attend days 8 and 9.

    Assessment methods:
    Learners will complete a portfolio of evidence, which will include assignments, projects, reflective journals, presentations, written questions, professional discussions and an on-site observation.

    Following our successful visit to Emma Bridgewater pottery in January, we have tied down a similar visit to the World of Wedgwood in Staffordshire for a factory tour followed by afternoon tea on Wednesday 8th October 2025.

    The tour will begin at 1.30pm, followed by afternoon tea at 2.30pm. Spaces are limited to 13 people on a first come, first served basis. Please only book on if you can make it.

    This is an opportunity to meet fellow SOM members in a friendly and relaxed environment. 

    Unfortunately, there is no Occupational health person available for the tour, however the guide will be able to answer questions as we go round. You will interact with some of the workers, many of whom have worked there for 30+ years and they will chat about the many processes and range of skills on the factory.

    There is no photography allowed on the factory however.

    The 24th Asian Congress on Occupational Health (ACOH) will be held on the 5th - 8th August 2026 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) in Sarawak, Malaysia.

    With the theme ”Shaping a Sustainable Future: Global Perspectives on Occupational Health",  this triennial congress promises insightful discussions, knowledge sharing, and collaboration opportunities aimed at advancing the field of Occupational Health in the region.

    The congress will comprise keynote sessions, plenaries, symposiums, poster and oral presentations with invited speakers from all over the globe.
