Internship programme

SOM internship programme

A SOM intern gains valuable experience in supporting a professional health membership organisation. It aims to integrate talented individuals into its core activities, fostering the intern’s skills in research, health policy, administration, and digital transformation. The programme is designed to provide interns with practical exposure to the inner workings of SOM, contributing to key activities. Interns will work closely with experts in the field, gaining insight into the work and health landscape, whilst building essential competencies for their future careers.

As an intern you will:

  • compile research briefings
  • attend parliamentary events
  • link with SOM’s international partners and
  • support the diverse professional groups within SOM, such as Special Interest Groups.
  • Previous interns have published their research in the SOM’s journal, Occupational Medicine.

This is a rolling programme open to UK resident graduate or masters students seeking a career transitions. Trainees in occupational medicine or health in other countries with the right to stay in the UK will also be considered.

Benefits:

  • Travel and lunch expenses. SOM aims to pay the London Living Wage but as a non-profit is unable to for interns (a paid role has been offered to a previous intern, as funding became available).
  • Reference for future employment.
  • Guidance of a dedicated team member to support your progress.
  • Internship Certificate upon successful completion of the programme.
  • Working in a friendly office in central London next to Regent’s Park.

Internship length: 1-3 months; Full-time or Part-time, based on intern and organisational needs.

This is a unique opportunity for those interested in supporting workplace health and enhancing their professional skills and understanding.
