FOHN has a strategic partnership with the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM), the UK organisation for healthcare professionals, helping the Faculty to offer membership support services.

Pillars

Accreditation

+ A career pathway for OH nurses

The FOHN Accreditation scheme enables recognition of OH nurses’ knowledge, skills, experience, and attributes as they progress throughout their career. It provides a structured development pathway for those aspiring to work at an advanced level—whether in clinical practice, research, education, or leadership and management. Accreditation complements professional registration, and all FOHN professional members must continue to meet the NMC’s revalidation requirements. Completion of a specific OH qualification, such as SCPHN, is not a prerequisite for progression through the scheme. Instead, nurses must demonstrate that they have gained the necessary knowledge, experience, and capabilities to meet the relevant standards.

To promote excellence in OH nursing practice

+ To promote excellence in OH nursing practice

FOHN have developed a set of practice standards and competency frameworks to support OH nurses in their professional development. Members can use these tools for audit, benchmarking, and reflective practice, enabling continuous improvement and helping to strengthen the overall quality and consistency of OH services.

To help improve the health of the working-age population

+ To help improve the healthof the working-age population

FOHN represents OH nurses at key national bodies, including the Council for Work and Health and the National School of Occupational Health. We are part of the NMC Stakeholder Group and collaborate with other standard-setting organisations such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the British Standards Institution (BSI).
FOHN also responds to consultations on work, health, and related topics, providing a collective voice for OH nurses and contributing to inquiries that shape future policy and practice.

Representing the voice of OH nurses

+ To advocate for OH nurses

FOHN serves as the collective voice of nurses within the wider OH community, championing their value and expertise. We advocate on their behalf to influence decisions that affect both the workforce and public health.

What we do

Supporting OH Nurses

At the Faculty of Occupational Health Nursing, we provide support to Occupational Health Nurses within a range of industries, across the country, by delivering knowledgeable seminars, events and a resource portal that is accessible to members 24/7. We hope to help OH Nurses build their own network and help them to grow and develop their own professional careers.

By doing this, we aim to add credibility to the OH industry by recognising the individual skills and qualifications it takes to become an OH professional and we hope to set standards within the Occupational Health sector.
