Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant Occupational Physician post to join a large multidisciplinary occupational health and wellbeing service.

This is a replacement post and is based at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). This is an exciting opportunity to join their large multi-disciplinary team, which includes 2 consultant occupational physicians (in addition to the advertised post), a Lead OH nurse, Operations Manager, Speciality Trainees, 16 OH nurses, wellbeing practitioners, IT and administrative support. It is a consultant-led department and the OH Service has been SEQOHS accredited since 2012. They provide comprehensive OH and wellbeing service to approximately 13,000 Trust employees, 4,500 University employees, 4000 healthcare students and several local employers through income-generating contracts. They have a strong national reputation and have won national awards for service innovation and quality improvement.

The successful applicant will be involved in all aspects of occupational health work, including pre-employment and fitness for work assessments, advising on immunisations and risk assessments, management of sharps and contamination incidents and an award-winning rehabilitation service (Return2Health). They will also have responsibilities for teaching and education. UHS actively encourage the involvement of their clinicians in the National OH agenda.

The successful applicant should possess MFOM (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register of the GMC or within 6 months of CCT at the time of the interview, if currently within a training programme in the UK. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic but careful decision-maker, an excellent communicator, able to influence others positively and supportively, and able to work within a multi-professional environment. The post-holder will be expected to work towards achieving competencies as a clinical supervisor for speciality trainees. Presently, most of the clinical work is based at the Southampton General Hospital site but the post-holder may be required to travel to external sites according to the needs of clients.
