UHB has an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Occupational Physician to provide inspiring and creative leadership to the Occupational Health team. As the Head of Occupational Health you will lead a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of an excellent service.Working in close collaboration with the Occupational Health Service Manager and the Lead Nurse, you will lead the triumvirate to develop and implement strategic plans for the OH service to ensure services provided are progressive and responsive to internal and external demand, are focused, safe, efficient and effective.

You will promote innovation and creativity across the team, exploring new ways of working and growing the Occupational Health Service for the future to ensure the provision of a physically and psychologically safe work environment that aligns with the Trust's overall strategy and plans.

The Occupational Health Service consists of over 40 staff based across three sites; the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands and Good Hope hospitals. This includes two in-house accredited Occupational Physicians and two external Occupational Physicians.Medical staff also includes a consultant occupational psychiatrist, two trainee occupational physicians and a Foundation Year 2 placement.

UHB Occupational Health provides a service to circa 23,000 staff as well as supplying services to external customers including Higher Educational establishments. The Department is SEQOHS accredited and has recently been reaccredited.

The department actively participates in teaching.This includes a rotational programme for Occupational Medicine Trainees in the West Midlands with two of the posts established at UHB trust with the other posts rotating to City and Sandwell, and Jaguar Landover.

The Department provides a full range of OH services including:

-Immunisation programmes including immunity checks and screening for Blood borne Viruses.
-Advice on management of issues where health affects work such as sickness absence and rehabilitation
-Assessment of work related health problems
-Advice on prevention of work-related ill-health
-Management of inoculation injuries
-Support for mental health issues including counselling and access to an occupational psychiatrist. The department manages the Staff Support service.
-Infection control advice
-Education and Teaching

The role is permanent and full time hours (10 PAs). A job plan is enclosed here however, we are happy to discuss alternative working hours and support a wide range of flexible working options that supports both your needs and the service needs (including hybrid and compressed hours).
